Athlone Town 1-4 Galway United
John Caulfield's Galway United got off to a winning start against 10-men Athlone Town with a 4-1 victory.
Enda Curran opened the scoring from the spot in the 19th minute and Athlone's night was made worse when Lee Duffy was shown a second yellow 10 minutes until the break.
Mikey Place added a second in the 64th minute, Vinny Faherty made it 3-0 four minutes and Place got his brace in the 74th minute.
Taner Dogan got a goal back late on for the home side as Galway climb to 8th in the table.

Bray Wanderers went level on points with UCD AFC and Drogheda United as they climbed victory over league leaders Cabinteely.
Derek Daly opened the scoring on the half-hour and Gary Shaw doubled the home side's lead 14 minutes from time.
The Seagulls rounded off an impressive evening as Darragh Lynch made it 3-0 two minutes from time.

Kevin Zefi scored 13 minutes from time but De Town held out to secure a big three points and to move into second spot in the table.

UCD AFC made history as they scored eight goals to secure their record league victory against Wexford.
Yoyo Mahdy took just two minutes to open the scoring and he got his second 25 minutes into the game. Liam Kerrigan scored two goals before the break to make it 4-0 at half-time.
Mahdy took just three minutes after the break to complete his hat-trick before Colm Whelan scored a brace and Isaak Akinsete added the eighth nine minutes from time to secure the record win.
