Cabinteely moved five points clear at the top of the SSE Airtricity League First Division thanks to a dominant performance against Longford.

Elsewhere, Drogheda United battled to a narrow 1-0 victory against Galway United and UCD AFC came back from behind to secure a 2-1 win over Athlone Town.

Longford Town 1-3 Cabinteely

Cabinteely may have conceded their first goal in 477 minutes of league action but that didn't stop them from claiming a huge three points at Longford.

Pat Devlin's side cruised to victory and were already 2-0 up at the break as Zak O'Neill opened the scoring 19 minutes in and Kieran 'Marty' Waters added a second in the 35th minute.

The points were secured in the 71st minute from the spot as Kevin Knight slotted home his penalty. Joe Gorman did get a goal back five minutes later but it wasn't enough as Cabinteely kept their unbeaten season going and went five points clear at the top of the table.

Drogheda United 1-0 Galway United

Drogheda United struggled to a narrow victory over lowly Galway United.

Chris Lyons scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot just 12 minutes in to see Drogheda go second in the table, ahead of Longford Town.

Galway had plenty of possession in the second-half as they searched for an equaliser and the closest they came was a Maurice Nugent header just four minutes from time but his header hit the post.

UCD AFC 2-1 Athlone Town

Nine-men UCD fought back from an early set-back to claim a 2-1 victory over Athlone Town.

Lee Duffy put the away side ahead in the 20th minute and the Students' hopes of getting anything from the game took a major blow four minutes from the break as Michael Gallagher was sent off.

However, on the stroke of half-time, Yoyo Mahdy slotted home his penalty to bring the home side level. Mahdy got his second of the game 18 minutes from time to put the Students ahead but were dealt another blow as Jack Keaney was shown a straight red in the 83rd minute.

A minute later, Athlone were also reduced in number as Ciaran Grogan was shown a second yellow but the home side held out to claim the points and move up to fourth in the table.
