John Gill says squad rotation is key as Dundalk chase a domestic treble. The Lilywhites maintained their four point lead at the top of the SSE Airtricity League table with a 5-0 win over UCD at Belfield on Friday night. It was the second time the clubs had clashed in five days, with Gill and Vinny Perth electing to make seven changes from the side which had beaten the Students at Oriel park at the start of the week. They also have an Extra.ie FAI Cup quarter-final, and an EA Sports Cup final to look forward to over the next couple of weekends. With a trip to Sligo up first on Monday, Gill says using the expanse of the squad will be critical. "We've a huge squad, and a very good squad, so we've been utilising that with the amount of games we've had. "Fatigue takes its toll on players, so we're trying to keep it fresh. At this stage of the season it's about getting results, and that's what we've done. "You just can't keep flogging players. You've got to be fair. There's no point in having a very competitive squad, if you're not going to use them. "It's called rotation, not leaving players out. We're 19 games unbeaten domestically, and we want to try and keep that going. "We're lucky that we've such a good squad, the owners have backed us." After doing the double last season, Dundalk can take the first step towards the treble when they travel up to play Derry in the EA Sports Cup final on Saturday week, September 14th. Gill says the players really want to achieve it this season. "The players probably talk about the treble more than we do, and you'd expect players to dream. "But we're not getting ahead of ourselves. We've Sligo on Monday, and they already turned us over down there this season. "So we know it's not going to be an easy game. We'll prepare properly, and we've full belief in the squad we have."
