Former Limerick loanee Tommy Robson believes his time in the SSE Airtricity League will benefit his future career. The full-back made 17 appearances for Limerick during his short stint with the Shannonsiders, impressing the Superblues faithful with his performances at Markets Field. The 21-year old returned to Wearside and spoke highly about his experiences in Ireland with safc.com. “It gave me the chance to get away and really focus on my football. My day was just going from the hotel to the training ground and back again. It gave me a chance to prove I was committed in that sense and I have to look after myself now. “It was great to play for Limerick. There are some good teams in their league and they like to play a lot. “When I first went over I wasn’t really expecting that to be honest because I thought it would be long ball football and direct play. We played out from the back so that suited me and helped me settle. “Now I’m back hopefully I can have a good pre-season and stake my claim in the first-team mix. That is where I want to be."
