Longford Town left Ferrycarrig Park with three points in the bag and were full value for their 2-1 triumph.

A debut goal from Sam Verdon separated the sides at half-time. Dan Cowan whipped in a cross from the right wing in the 37th minute and Verdon ghosted in at the back post to head the ball past Corey Chambers.

Tristan Noack Hofmann then doubled their advantage five minutes after the interval, firing the ball to the net when Chambers, under intense pressure, failed to hold on to Jake Kelly's corner.

Kelly went close to adding a third with 65 minutes on the clock after being found by Karl Chambers, but his curling effort was narrowly wide of the left upright. Thomas Croke gave Wexford hope in the 70th minute when he fired a long-range effort to the back of the net.

Longford then suffered another blow when substitute Kealon Dillon was red-card just seven minutes after entering the fray. However, the visitors kept the hosts at bay thereafter to secure a deserved victory.
