A goal from Matthew Whelan with 15 minutes remaining earned Cobh Ramblers the three points after a pulsating encounter at Ferrycarrig Park.
Whelan rose highest to head Jason Abbott's corner to the net to swing an end to end contest in favour of the visitors.
Wexford had opened the scoring with 22 minutes on the clock when Adam Hanlon met a dropping ball and arrowed it into the left-hand corner of the net.
The visitors took just seven minutes to level matters, however, with James McSweeney prodding home the equaliser with the aid of a deflection after a ring-wing corner from Craig Donnellan found its way to his feet. Cobh captain Chris McCarthy had earlier been denied from the penalty spot when young Wexford FC goalkeeper Corey Chambers did brilliantly to stretch full length to tip his effort around the post.
