Two goals late in the first-half helped league leaders U.C.D. to a comfortable victory over lowly Wexford FC in Ferrycarrig Park.

The Students dominated from the get-go and, after a succession of chances, deservedly broke the deadlock in the 39th minute when Daire O'Connor ran on to a searching cross from Neil Farrugia and rifled an unstoppable shot to the net off the underside of the bar.

After taking a while to make the breakthrough, they weren't long about doubling their advantage, with Farrugia this time applying the finish, rising highest to head in Gary O'Neil's free-kick.

O'Neill had missed a gilt-edged opportunity to fire the visitors in front in the 14th minute, but Wexford goalkeeper Corey Chambers spread himself well to get down to his right to make a magnificent save.

U.C.D. continued their purple patch after the interval and they were 3-0 up in the 53rd minute when captain Gary O'Neill fired the ball to the net after being teed up by Farrugia. Moments later Wexford briefly threatened when Mark Slater robbed possession and played in Aaron O'Connor but his effort was saved by U.C.D. goalkeeper Conor Kearns.

The game petered out in the final half an hour although Wexford did manage another effort on target when Dean George ran on to a pass from Aaron O'Connor, but his curling effort was easily gathered by Kearns and moments later a decent effort from substitute Adham Masood fizzed wide of the right post.
