Cabinteely moved to the top of the SSE Airtricity First Division table with a 2-0 victory over Wexford FC in Ferrycarrig Park.

First-half goals from Robert Manley and Jack Watson set them on their way to victory and Wexford's hopes of staging a fightback were dealt a severe blow when Owen McCormack was dismissed after being shown a second yellow card in the 62nd minute.

The prolific Manley fired the visitors in front in the 16th minute with his tenth goal of the campaign, drilling the ball to the net from eight yards after a long throw in from Daniel Blackbyrne caused panic in the Wexford defence.

Cabo doubled their advantage five minutes before the break, when Kieran 'Marty' Waters found Watson in acres of space and he picked his spot past Corey Chambers. The Dubliners didn't have it all their own way though, with the hosts squandering several opportunities in the opening 45 minutes.

The lively Jack Doherty was denied by a good save from Stephen McGuinness in the 12th minute while midway through the half the netminder denied Doherty and Thomas Croke in quick succession.

Watson curled a free-kick wide of the right post early in the second-half as Cabinteely looked to put the game to bed and Wexford were really up against it just after the hour mark when McCormack was sent off.

Wexford didn't give up the ghost though and Emmet Nugent had a sight of goal in the 67th minute when he met a Nika Arevadze cross, but his shot was straight at McGuinness, and they threatened again when Paddy Cahill's first-time effort from the edge of the area was blocked.

However, Cabinteely never looked like loosening their grip on the contest and are sitting pretty at the summit of the First Division table.
