Shane Duggan's stoppage-time penalty rescued a point for Waterford FC as they drew 2-2 with Derry City.

David Parkhouse almost gave Derry City the lead but his snapshot was cleared off the line by defender Georgie Poynton. Parkhouse missed a better chance just past the half hour; the striker scuffing his strike wide.

Waterford’s Aaron Drinan and Derry City’s Jamie McDonagh traded efforts before Parkhouse broke the deadlock. Barry McNamee crossed for the striker to shoot past Connor for the opener.

Waterford’s Drinan and Twine linked had chances but neither could level Gerardo Bruna fired at Matthew Connor before Waterford equalised.

Bastien Hery’s through ball down the right set Ismahil Akinade free. He outpaced defender Josh Kerr and raced towards goal before shooting past City keeper Peter Cherrie to equalise.

Derry City looked to have grabbed the winner with a terrific 25-yard strike from Darren Cole as he curled over Waterford keeper Matthew Connor with just two minutes left on the clock.

But Waterford hit back and levelled. Jamie McDonagh fouled Aaron Drinan in the penalty box and Shane Duggan beat Peter Cherrie from the penalty spot to ensure a share of the points.
