Goals from Shane Duggan and Zack Elbouzedi ensured it was a winning return to the RSC for Waterford FC after a fully-deserved 2-0 win over Cork City.

Both sides had good spells in the first half but neither could find the net. The home side started brightly and Kevin Lynch’s cross found Bastien Hery¬ but his bicycle kick drifted wide.

James Tilley found Graham Cummins at the other but his dangerous cross was dealt with. Tilley tried his own luck minutes later but couldn’t score, before McNulty saved well from Waterford’s Kevin Lynch.

Cork City thought they’d taken a 32nd-minute lead when Conor McCarty found Graham Cummins to head the ball toward goal; but Garry Buckley’s rebound was offside.

Conor McCormack was wide of the target before Hery and Elbouzedi also wasted chances. Shane Duggan and Rory Feely both went close before the former fired beyond McNulty from 25 yards for the opener. As City pushed to level, Waterford scored on the counter attack.

Rory Feely headed clear from the corner and Zack Elbouzedi raced clear to fire past McNulty to secure the points.
