St. Patrick’s Athletic battled to come from behind against Shamrock Rovers, to take all three points in their Dublin Derby on Saturday evening. Gary Shaw had given the visitors an early lead, following waves of early pressure from the Hoops, but Sean Heaney saw red in the first half for two booking in four minutes, sparking a resurgence from the hosts. Saints piled on the pressure as the first half neared an end, but Stephen Bradley’s side somehow went in at the break with their lead preserved. Liam Buckley’s side started the second half in similar fashion, but Rovers, too, looked to add to their tally. Kurtis Byrne’s introduction sparked more life into the hosts, and Byrne was the man responsible for the equaliser. A sublime ball over the top from J.J Lunney found Byrne, who brilliantly volleyed beyond Tomer Chencinski as the ball dropped over his shoulder. Another substitute provided the winner. Josh O’Hanlon wandered into the box as he came on, only to find himself arriving at the perfect time to head into the top corner. Both sides continued to attack for the rest of the game, but Pat’s had enough to see the game out.
