Simon Madden rescued a point for St Patrick's Athletic with the last kick of the game to earn a 1-1 draw against Cork City. Pat's were by far the dominant side in the first half with Cork failing to get past the halfway line until about the 10th minute. There weren't many chances to write home about until the 22nd minute when David Webster's cross was just a little too high for Mikey Drennan to head into the Cork goal. The half was a fairly hot-tempered affair with both Cork's Shane Griffin and Pats' Gary Shaw having to go off injured. Before the break, Shaw's replacement Jake Walker could have done better when he received a Cian Coleman pass in the box but his shot was deflected wide. It was Walker who had the first chance of the second half, his glancing header bouncing just wide of the post on 50 minutes. Three minutes later, the deadlock was broken but it was the away side who did so. Garry Buckley delivered a low cross in from the right which captain Karl Sheppard guided home from close range. Minutes later, Ciaran Kelly could have equalised but his header was saved by McNulty. Further Saints chances fell to Simon Madden and Walker but neither could find the net. Late drama arrived in injury time when Madden fired home with the allocated three minutes of added time complete. Cork only had time to kick off before the referee blew the final whistle, to the sound of relieved sighs from the home crowd. Both sides travel to Sligo Rovers in the next game. Pat's on Saturday June 8th and Cork City on Friday June 14th.
