UCD left Tolka Park the happier of the two sides after Gary O'Neill's late strike helped his team to a 1-1 draw on Friday night.

The first half was a drab affair with the only big chance of the 45 coming after just 10 minutes when Max Kouogun almost gifted the home side the lead with a sloppy pass across his own box.

He had teammate Josh Collins to thank for sparing him a rollicking with a great block as James English attempted to pounce on the mistake. English finally gave the home fans something to cheer about seven minutes into the second half when he picked up a deep cross towards the back post, cut inside onto his right foot, and smashed the ball into the roof of the net.

Shels looked on the way to a comfortable victory until O'Neill tried his luck from distance in the 89th minute and wheeled away in delight as he watched a deflection steer his effort past Dean Delany and into the bottom corner.

That goal buoyed UCD who pushed forward in search of a winner. Some were to keen for the three points, however, as Georgie Kelly's dive in the box deep into injury time saw him dismissed for a second yellow card.
