Shamrock Rovers wrapped up an ultimately comfortable passage to the Irish Daily Mail FAI Cup quarter finals with a 3-0 away win over Shelbourne at Tolka Park.

Two goals in six Second half minutes from Brandon Miele and Graham Burke broke the resistance of a dogged home side, who will rue the James English header that rebounded from Chencinski’s crossbar just after Miele’s opener.

It was a fine evening in Tolka Park, ideal for football. Rovers were on top territorially in the opening 45 minutes but neither side had shown enough guile in that half to make the breakthrough.

It took Rovers under two minutes from the restart to take the lead. Right back David Webster looped a pass over the top to Graham Burke in the inside right channel. Burke’s pinpoint pass was rolled right footed into the net by Brandon Miele from twelve yards out.

Rovers’ second arrived on 53 minutes just after English was foiled by the woodwork. Pacy left back Trevor Clarke made rapid progress down the Rovers left. Clarke found Burke who slammed the ball past Delany and into the bottom corner. James Doona made absolutely certain with a close range finish after 76 minutes.

A late red card for Rovers’ captain Ronan Finn (second yellow for a dive) was only a slight tarnish on a comfortable win for the Hoops.
