Shamrock Rovers have a five-point lead over Dundalk at the top of the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division following a Jack Byrne inspired 3-1 win at Tallaght Stadium.
Irish international, Byrne, scored a superb free-kick and set-up the second for Dylan Watts as they went 2-0 up inside 20 minutes. Aaron McEneff made it 3-0 before Karl O’Sullivan pulled one back for Ollie Horgan’s men before the break.
Rovers took the lead as early as the sixth minute when Byrne curled a direct free-kick into the top corner leaving Mark McGinley with no chance.
Ten minutes later it was 2-0 and Byrne was at the centre of it all again. This time picking out Watts for a one-on-one which he dispatched with ease.
It was 3-0 on 37 minutes and it was another excellent goal as Aaron McEneff found the bottom corner from 20 yards with a drilled strike.
Finn Harps got a goal back minutes later when Karl O’Sullivan chested and volleyed home following a long throw into the Shamrock Rovers’ box.
In the second half Finn Harps were a much more solid outfit with their biggest threat coming from the long throws of Tony McNamee.
Despite the away side's effort Stephen Bradley’s men saw out the game for a vital win in the title race.
