Two goals in four second half minutes were the crucial strikes in league leaders Dundalk 5-2 win over Shamrock Rovers in a goal fest at the Tallaght Stadium.

First, Daniel Cleary rose in the box to steer Robbie Benson's free kick from the left past Chencinski on the hour mark. Scarcely four minutes later, left back Dane Massey's low left foot drive ended up in the net. Roberto Lopes pulled one back for Rovers in the 71st minute, converting a close range tap-in after a Rovers shot rebounded off the bar.

Robbie Benson restored Dundalk's two goal cushion with a low strike to Chencinski's left. Benson made it five six minutes later. Rovers took a fourth minute lead in a first half that finished 1-1. A low Ronan Finn cross from the right was diverted towards his own goal by Brian Gartland.

Gary Rogers mades a superb save but could only parry to Dan Carr who slammed home under the body of the Dundalk netminder. The Lilywhites levelled with a sweet 37th strike. A sublime Michael Duffy chip was met by the head of Patrick Hoban and the top scorer made no mistake.

Rovers had opened like an express train and dominated the opening 20 minutes. The loss of two influential players, goalscorer Carr and skipper Finn, and a gradual improvement by the Stephen Kenny's men saw Dundalk back into the game. One could scarcely foresee five second half goals but the Dundalk bandwagon rolls on.
