Shamrock Rovers produced a dominant display to run out easy 2-0 winners against a disappointing Galway side who were lucky to leave Dublin having conceded just two.

The first half started slowly as both teams took their time to find any kind of rhythm. Galway attempted balls into the channel for Cunningham to chase down, while the home side attempted to work their way into the box.

As the half wore on the threat of Rovers' front four became clear as Galway struggled to keep up with the pace of their opponents. After a couple of decent chances, Rovers eventually broke the deadlock on 36 minutes when Luke Byrne found space down the left and delivered a deep cross into the box.

Brandon Miele did well to control the ball before knocking it back into Shaw to hook past Conor Winn in the Galway goal. Miele doubled Rovers' advantage after 68 minutes with a goal from the top drawer.

Burke controlled the ball on his chest before flicking it over his head and into the path of the onrushing Miele. The pacy winger did well to hold off the attentions of two defenders before firing past the helpless Winn.

Rovers created a number of chances to increase their lead but in the end had to settle for just the two. Kevin Devaney was the one bright spark for Galway but in the end it was a well-deserved win for Rovers.
