Derry City gave themselves some breathing space in the battle for Europe with a hard fought 2-0 win over Shamrock Rovers at Tallaght Stadium.
Aaron McEneff and Barry McNamee were the heroes once again for Derry as they have been so many times already this season.
The first half was a quite affair until the final five minutes when both teams had chances to break the deadlock. McEneff almost caught out Tomer Chencinski with a long range free kick before Ronan Finn broke into the box and dragged a shot just wide of the post.
Rovers were a more commanding presence in the second half with Derry forced to settle for a counter-attacking approach. It worked well for them, however, with McEneff opening the scoring with a 25-yard-strike after 64 minutes.
The home side continued to attack at will in search of an equaliser but, whether through wastefulness or bad luck, they couldn't find it and McNamee finished them off in injury time with a 40 yard shot into an empty net after Chencinski found himself stranded on the half-way line.
