In a game full of mistakes, in the end it was the side who made one to many that went home with nothing, and Longford deserved all three points, they are now unbeaten in five games and Galway find themselves outside of the play off places.
Longford took the lead in the seventh minute. Aodh Dervin picked up the ball on the edge of Galway United's area from Dean Byrne's pull back. He curled the ball beautifully just inside the goal keeper's right hand post.
Longford then made it 2-0 towards the end of the half. A defensive mistake allowed Sam Verdon in and he cooley placed the ball past Conor Gleeson. However, the first half wasn't by all means 100% perfect.
Moments after going two in front, Darren Meenan picked up a straight red card, Longford's fourth of the season. It was a silly two footed challenge on Marc Ludden, who did manage to jump out of the way.
However, the ball really wasn't there to be won by Meenan. Ten minutes into the second half Galway pulled one back. This time it was the home side's turn to have a lapse in concentration in the back.
McGlade gave the ball away to Conor Barry and he was one on one with Mick Kelly and slotted the ball home. Murphy missed a great chance to equalise in the 68th minute.
McDonnell was adjudged to have fouled McCormack in the area and the referee had no hesitation in pointing to the spot. However Alan Murphy blazed his shot over the bar. It didn't get better for Galway.
Longford restored their two goal lead 10 minutes before the end. Galway were unable to defend properly yet again and there was some pinball in their area. Substitutes Hollywood and Chambers combined before Chambers shot cannoned off the post and hit a Galway man on the way in.
There was a bit of hope for Galway in the end. Stephen Walsh rifled home a shot from just inside the area with three minutes to go but it was to little too late for the away side who didn't really deserve anything from the game.
