Cabinteely's fairy tale season lives on after beating Longford Town 3-1 on penalties.

And it was a penalty masterclass in goalkeeping from Stephen McGuinness that helped his side progress to face Drogheda United next week in the promotion/relegation play offs.

Longford started the first half brightly and should have been one or two up before Paul Fox sent Cabo ahead on 18 minutes after latching onto a rebound from Lee Steacy's double save.

The second half saw both sides try their hardest but the deadlock wouldn't be broken even with numerous efforts from Longford's Aaron Dobbs and Cabo's Marty Waters. Cabinteely seemed to tire in the first half of extra time and Longford upped the tempo considerably but just couldn't find a way past McGuinness although he did fumble the ball on the line from a Dobbs' header.

It went to penalties, and despite Cabo failing from their first spot kick and Longford scoring, McGuinness saved all the remaining Longford penalties before Rob Manley sent his team through to the next round in their hunt for pormotion and glory.
