Ronan Hale proved to be the match winner for Derry City as they came away from the Markets Field with a 1-0 win over Limerick FC.
Hale hit the target on 24 minutes to give Kenny Shiels' side a well-deserved win. In truth, he could have had a first half hat-trick but was denied by a couple of fine stops from Limerick keeper Tommy Holland.
Ben Fisk was also denied by Holland before Hale put Derry into a deserved lead. He latched on to a superb Nicky Low through ball and clinically finished into the corner past a despairing Holland.
Derry took that lead into half time but Limerick should have been level early in the second half but Karl O'Sullivan was unable to divert Shane Tracy's cross past Ger Doherty six yards from goal.
Tracy then had a superb free kick tipped over by Doherty and Derry cruised for the rest of the half to come out with all three points.
