Galway United failed to pick up a win in their final home match of the season against Wexford FC as a late Corey Chambers save denied Colin Kelly from the spot.

The first half was a relatively drab affair, despite Galway's Kelly and Wexford's Dean George producing half-chances for their respective sides. Donal Higgins produced some nice dribbling on the half-hour mark to fashion a deflected shot that forced a corner before a Conor Barry header tested Chambers at the back post minutes later.

However, it was the visitors who produced the breakthrough against the run of play through a low-driven George strike from 20 yards in the 44th minute. The second half produced more drama - United drew level through substitute Carlton Ubaezuonu on the hour mark when he produced a powerful header at the back post, and it sparked the contest into life.

The chances came thick and fast from there - Higgins threatened as did Wexford's John Morgan, but the best of the drama was to come in the dying embers.

United were awarded a penalty in the in the 86th minute which saw Chambers deny Kelly from the spot, and then minutes later Wilson Waweru squandered a golden opportunity when his header from a Stephen Walsh cross flew wide.
