Wilson Waweru broke the deadlock after 30 minutes when Dara Costelloe played a square ball outside the box to the midfielder, he turned quickly, took one touch and smashed the ball into the net.
Galway looked to be heading for the win but in the 66th minute Cian Murphy gave away a penalty for the home side. Dean Williams made no mistake and slotted the ball into the left corner to eventually earn his side a valuable point.
The result put an end to Galway's three-game losing streak.
