Drogheda United recorded a valuable win over their promotion chasing rivals Galway United as a late Sean Brennan free sealed a victory that keeps the pressure on the leaders UCD.

Brennan was fouled by Stephen Walsh in an area that didn't seem a threat, however from distance the Louth native managed to blast the ball past substitute keeper Conor Gleeson.

The home side had plenty of chances in what was a very open match with Alan Murphy, Eoin McCormack and Stephen Walsh all coming close but in the end were made to pay for their poor finishing in the final third.

The result sees Tim Clancy's charges go within two points of table toppers UCD in what is fast becoming one of most intriguing battles for supremacy the league has seen in many years.
