Dundalk look set to be crowned the 2018 SSE Airtricity League champions, after a 3-2 win at home to Derry City in Oriel Park.

Stephen Kenny's side are now 12-points clear of Cork City with just four games to go. The Louth side could confirm the League title with a point at home to St. Patrick's Athletic on October 5th.

The home side took the lead in the 16th-minute, as Daniel Cleary headed home from a Chris Benson corner. Four minutes later they doubled their lead, with Patrick McEleney finding space in the box to shoot past Ger Doherty.

The three points were all but assured just before the break, with Patrick Hoban scoring his 25th goal of the season, shooting past Doherty from the edge of the box.

A Dean Jarvis own goal gave Kenny Shiels' side hope in the latter stages of the second-half before a Ben Fisk header in the 89th-minute caused some nervous moments for Dundalk and their fans.

Although Cork City can still mathematically win the title, the reaction of the Oriel Park crowd and Dundalk's players at the Final Whistle showed they feel the Louth club have regained the title.
