Dundalk hadn't had much luck this season when it comes to certain aspects of their state of play but second-half goals from Michael Duffy and Patrick Hoban gave them their first win of the SSE Airtricity League season.
The home side was on the front foot for the majority of the first half. The impressive Sean Murray looking most threating for the home side and Dundalk looked to right the wrongs of the previous games against Sligo and Finn Harps.
UCD, who employ an exciting and creative brand of football, looked a match for the champions and didn't look out of their depth. The biggest moment of the first half came in 29 minutes when Neil Farrugia broke free of the Dundalk defence and unleashed a high shot that Gary Rogers was powerless to stop. The silence in Oriel following the goal was deafening.
When the side emerged for the second half, the arrival of Jamie McGrath both balance and tempo that the side was lacking. It worked a treat as Dundalk dominated proceedings and got a just penalty that Pat Hoban cooly slotted home.
As Dundalk looked to put UCD to they did so with a bit of magic, from our own little magician. Michael Duffy turned the UCD defence inside out before dispatching a low effort to the corner of the net. Cue the delirium.
As Queen's 'Don't stop me now' blared over the tannoy at the full-time whistle, it begs the question... will Dundalk be stopped short again?
