Drogheda United kicked their season off in style as they defeated Athlone Town 6-0 at United Park.
The Drogs scored early through captain Jake Hyland and they then doubled their lead on the stroke of half-time as Martin Walshe bundled the ball over his own goal line.
United blitzed the visitors at the start of the second-half as three goals in 13 minutes from Colm Deasy and a Mark Doyle brace ended any Athlone fight.
The scoring was completed in stoppage time as Ciaran Kelly headed home. A dream start for the Drogs but it's now 10 conceded for The Town in their first two games.
