Drogheda United strengthened their grip on second place after they defeated Wexford 2-0 at United Park.

The visitors started well and they frustrated Drogheda for long periods of the first-half but the Drogs took the lead just before the break as Lee Duffy’s strike was parried by Kealan Gaffney into the path of Chris Lyons who had a simple finish from close range.

Wexford forced a succession of corners in the second-half but they failed to test the Drogheda goal and the hosts sealed victory with Sean Brennan's penalty after Conor Kane was fouled.

Drogheda remain second in the table ahead of next week's clash with Galway United while Wexford host Finn Harps.
