It was an action-packed first half in Buncrana as the fans were treated to three goals before the interval. The Candystripes started the brighter of the two teams and they got the early goal to calm any nerves they may have had. After seven minutes of play, Aaron McEneff struck the ball outside the 18-yard box and gave Chencinski no chance. However, Shamrock Rovers didn't lie down lightly and they responded with a wonder strike of their own.

Graham Burke hit a beauty of a volley just outside the box and it went over the head of Gerard Doherty, but to be fair two goalkeepers wouldn't have saved the brilliantly-hit strike. The game for a short period was starting to go in favour of the Dubliners, but they couldn't capitalise and they went behind again just before the interval.Lukas Schubert made a great run and dribbled the box inside the Shamrock Rovers penalty area and Barry McNamee was there to give Derry City the advantage when he received the ball six yards out.

The second half was quiet for Shamrock Rovers and the Foylersiders were firmly in control of this affair. The Candystripes made sure of the three points in the 90th minute when Ronan Curtis was brought down by Seán Heaney inside the penalty area and Ben Connolly had an easy decision. Aaron McEneff stood up to score his tenth consecutive penalty for the Candystripes and got this second of the match. It puts Derry City four points ahead of Shamrock Rovers in fourth and four points behind Dundalk ahead of their clash at the Oriel Park on Tuesday night.
