Derry City took the lead after 17 minutes. Rory Patterson played a fantastic ball through on goal for Barry McNamee and the Donegal man made no mistake smashing it past McNulty and into the top corner.
Cork City didn't stay behind for long as a mistake led to Karl Sheppard equalising for Cork City on the half hour mark. Six minutes later GearĂ³id Morrissey put his side in front with an absolute thunder strike, which left Gerard Doherty with no chance.
The second half saw Jimmy Keohane receive two yellow cards and Cork City was down to ten for the final 20 minutes.
Derry City mounted some serious pressure and the noise from the crowd was more motivation for Kenny Shiels and his young side. But it came to nothing as Cork City held their own and claimed their second win over The Candystripes this season.
