Cork City have now failed to win in three of their opening four games of the new Premier Division season as they were held to a 0-0 draw by a spirited Derry side at Turner's Cross on Friday evening.
A tame first half saw both side's only chances coming from distance although Shane Griffin was unfortunate to see one such effort crash against the outside of the far right post.
The second half was a better spectacle as the visitors went close to taking the lead shortly after half time break but Ally Gilchrist's shot from range was tipped over by McNulty.
Cork finished strongly as Dan Smith, on his home debut, and Conor McCarthy almost scored from crosses to the back post late on but they couldn't find the net has Derry hung on for a deserved point.
