Cobh Ramblers and UCD played out a hugely entertaining 2-2 draw at a wet St. Colman’s Park on Saturday evening.

A very entertaining first half burst into life in the early minutes when Ramblers took the lead after some terrific link up play between Mylod and O’ Connor. This allowed Stephen Kenny the room to thread a delightful ball into the path of Chris Hull that the young striker put away with aplomb.

It was the start of a dominant period for Ramblers who almost doubled their lead in the 15th minute when a carbon copy ball from Kenny almost found the run of Hull but this time the ball went wide.

UCD grew slowly into the game and found an equaliser from their first meaningful attack in the 30th minute. O’ Connor was found in the box after a clever run and he poked the ball under the onrushing Hunt.

The ball was going into the net, but Conor Davis tapped home to bring the visitors level. A topsy turvy final ten minutes to the half saw both teams clear off the line. First an attacking header from a UCD corner was cleared by O’ Riordan while at the other end Dave Hurley saw his shot blocked after picking up a spilled ball by Kearns.

The rain began to pour down in the second half and had an early impact as Ramblers defender Gordon Walker put his team back in front. Driving out of defence, Walker spotted Kearns off his line and attempted a lob from all of 35 yards.

Kearns looked like he would gather but slipped on the wet surface and could only watch in vain as the ball looped over his head and into the net. UCD pressed for an equaliser and found it in 78th minute. Substitute Mahdy was bundled over in the box and captain O’ Neill slotted home the resulting penalty. Both teams had chances to win it but in the end they had to settle for a draw.
