Amid the rain, the First Division spoils were shared at Stradbrook as Cabinteely came from behind to deny Longford.

De ‘Town remain unbeaten this season but the South Dublin club became the first team to score against the Midlanders. Sam Verdon’s first-half opener was cancelled out by Robert Manley in blustery conditions.

The home side retained the starting line-up who’d beaten Shels 3-2 last week at Tolka Park. The away outfit made one change from the team who’s defeated Drogheda 3-0 at the City Calling Stadium – with Jamie Doyle replacing Aaron Dobbs.

The ‘Town hit the front after 13 minutes. From Anto Breslin’s corner, Joe Manley’s header was blocked before the line. But Verdon – back after a short stint at Finn Harps – buried the close range rebound.

Cabo rallied after the break and equalised after 55 minutes. Alex Aspil’s surging run played in Kieran Marty Waters along the left channel. His cut-back saw Aspil crash his shot against the bar. But Robert Manley bundled in the follow-up.

It was the first goal Longford had conceded in 325 minutes of action in 2019. The hosts almost won in the 69th minute. But sub Jonny Carlin saw his effort blocked in the line by Anto Breslin after Keith Dalton’s corner.
