Cabinteely claimed their first set of three home points of the season at Stradbook with a hard-fought victory over Galway.

Rob Manley’s sixth goal of the First Division season saw the Green and White’s climb up to third place in the charts. It was an historic night for the home side as President Michael D. Higgins attended the game.

But the hosts edged out his fellow Tribesmen who now have won just once this season. The crucial score came in the 17th minute. Keith Dalton’s right-wing corner was cleared back to him.

His second delivery picked out the front-post run of Manley. The striker got ahead of his marker to send a looping header that dropped in off the far upright. The away outfit went close six minutes later.

But Stephen McGuinness tipped Wilson Wareru’s header onto the bar and over. Galway had the better of the second half exchanges. But failed to create a clear -cut opening. They relied on a series of long throws into the box.

However, Conor Keeley, Jack Hudson and Jack Tuite stood strong to register their first clean sheet of the campaign. Right on full time, United custodian Andreas Werner thwarted Manley when he saved well.
