It proved 13th time lucky for Galway as they picked up their first win since last May. And ended Cabinteely’s record run of nine games without a loss in the process to dent the South Dublin club’s play-off bid.

Conor Barry’s wonder strike in the first half proved to be the difference at Stradbrook. Almost out of noting, the Tribesmen hit the front on 19 minutes. Barry struck a 35-yard half volley that caught out Stephen McGuinness who was off his line and dropped to the net.

The same player came to his own team's rescue three minutes before the interval. From Paul Fox’s cross from the left, Yuta Sasaki got a touch in the box. The ball fell to Rob Manley. He steered it towards the line. But the covering Barry got back to hack clear.

Right on half time, Galway keeper Kevin Horgan was almost caught out by Manley. He threw the ball down to kick clear on the edge of the box. The striker nipped in to win possession. But couldn’t get his shot in.

Early in the second half, a vital sliding tackle by McGuinness prevented Conor Melody adding to the visitors’ tally. Keith Dalton fizzed a drive just over as Cabo went in search of the vital equaliser.

They had the chance to snatch a point late on. But Manley’s volley on the turn flew over the bar.
