Cabinteely pay the penalty as Bohs progress in the EA Sports Cup with a 2-1 victory at a chilly Dalymount Park thanks to Sam Byrne's late spot-kick.

After such a quick turnaround from league action, mass changes were expected - both sides made eleven each - but it was the visitors who looked the more comfortable with their overhaul right from the off.

Adam Doyle down the left wing caused all sorts of trouble for the Gypsie defence, linking up well with his left back, Ronan O’Kelly and it was this avenue which paid dividends for Cabo as the skillful winger won the corner that lead to the opening goal.

Striker Luke Clucas rose brillinatly in the box just as keeper Sean Bohan looked to punch clear, and the frontman got just enough on the header to take it over the line to take a deserved lead just aftr the half hour mark.

The second half started at a much quicker tempo with both sides going close. James Woods skipped by Paddy Kirk and hammered a low drive inches past Bohan’s far post, just before Ryan Graydon hit the bar with a header.

The home side stepped it up a gear and Bohs left winger Graydon made no mistake just before the hour mark with a beautifully guided header from Ryan Swans early delivery to make it 1-1.

Bohs in the ascendancy, were unlucky not to grab a second when goal scorer Graydon went on a cross field driblble only to see his low strike crash the outside of the post and go wide. Bohs pressure finally told and eventually got themselves in front through Sam Byrne coolly taken penalty, following Sean Fitzpatricks late challenge on Andy Lyons as he burst into the box.
