The Champions were in town looking to keep up that winning momentum ahead of a huge Cup final, but Bohs weren’t here to make up the numbers and keep the Dundalk engines ticking over.
With just 20 minutes played Keith Ward picked out the unmarked Daniel Kelly at the back post who should have done better with his volley, hammering it into the ground. But the freezing Bohs faithful didn’t have to wait long to take the lead, and deservedly so.
The excellent Keith Buckley exploded through midfield, to the right hand side of the box and showed superb awareness to find Dinny Corcoran in a packed area to prod home.
The Gypsies could and maybe should have added to their tally if it wasn’t for the outstanding Gary Rogers. The experienced stopper saved his side on three occasions in quick succession.
First, an incredible double save to deny Keith Ward from the edge of the area and Kevin Devaney on the rebound using all his athleticism. Swiftly followed by a one on one stop to bravely deny Ward again from point blank range.
Dundalk looked a shadow of themselves a the Gypsies, similar to the Cork City games, pressed high and with intensity not giving their counterparts a second to breath. The Gypsies did no relent in the second half and just minutes in should have doubled their lead.
Ward's clever reverse found Corcoran who clipped his left footed effort off the near post. Against an opposition of this quality, even on an off night, you have to take your chances and Bohs were made to rue their missed opportunities as Daniel Cleary powered home the equalizer in the 78th minute.
Shane Supple did well to get his hands to it but the power was too much from close range. Both teams had chances on the break as the game, and league campaign, came to an end in yet another enthralling encounter in #TheGreatestLeagueintheWorld.
