Bohemians advanced to the second round of the EA Sports Cup after a 1-0 victory over Cabinteely.
The hosts struck the only goal of the game when Steven Nolan looped a header into the net in the 47th minute.
A forgettable first half saw both sides frustrated in the attacking third. Bohemians looked more likely, with Dean Casey going closest in the early exchanges. The second-half was to prove much more entertaining.
The Gypsies hit the front when Eoghan Morgan dinked a cross onto the head of Steven Nolan, whose header looped over Jack Menton. The young ‘keeper kept his side in the game when he saved brilliantly from the spot after Phillip Gannon sent his effort towards the top corner.
Keith Long’s side looked more likely, as they looked to build on Nolan’s effort. The impressive Fuad Sule struck the bar before substitute Jamie Hamilton sent a brace of efforts narrowly wide.
The introduction of Jason Byrne failed to ignite the visitors attack as Greg Murray was a spectator throughout. Byrne forced a routine save from Murray deep into stoppage time.
