Barry McNamee's first half winner was enough to take all three points as his 10 man Derry side took emerged victorious from Dalymount Park, maintaining their push for European football.
With just over 20 minutes played the visitors thought they had taken the lead only to see the linesman put his flag up. A long hopeful ball into the box fell to the feet of Patterson who scuffed his effort past Shane Supple but for some reason teammate Nathan Boyle, on the goal line, touched it over in an offside position.
The visitors did take the lead their play and possession arguably deserved when Ronan Curtis cut inside from the left wing and hit a rasping volley that was wonderfully saved by Supple, but the rebound fell to Barry McNamee who hammered home the follow up.
The second half never really got going as a contest, becoming very scrappy and stopping any momentum the home side could build.. The introduction of fan favourite Ismahil Akinade lifted the spirits of the home side but Derry continued to comfortably keep Bohs at bay.
Unable to build any bout of sustained pressure, the hosts were given a lift when Aaron Barry saw red following his blatant pull on Akinade as the striker raced clear on goal. Bohs were unable to get the all important equaliser as they look nervously over their shoulder at the dreaded relegation zone.
