Waterford have been strongly linked with former Republic of Ireland striker Daryl Murphy.
Reports in the national media over the weekend suggest the 37-year old could return to his hometown club after moving back from England.
Murphy, who has 32 caps and three goals for the Republic of Ireland, was released by Bolton Wanderers following their relegation to League Two this season.
The former Nottingham Forest, Ipswich Town and Sunderland striker is reportedly eager to rejoin Waterford where he scored 14 goals in 41 appearances between 2002 & 2005 for the club. He was part of the First Division title winning side in the 2002-03 season.
The signing would be considered a major coup for the club who returned to training this week.
