The latest news across the League of Ireland

League of Ireland Clubs have been busy bringing early Christmas presents to their supporters with more announcements made across the Divisions.

Sports Direct Men’s FAI Cup winners St. Patrick’s Athletic have announced the extension of Captain Joe Redmond’s contract after the central defender lifted the Cup last November.

Focus now turns to more silverware for the former St. Joseph’s Boy’s player who said: “When I first signed two years ago, my main objective was to get into the team, and have a good pre-season.

“That year went well and it was amazing to be named Captain, it's something I'm very proud of, and winning the FAI Cup last year was one of the best days ever, so we want more.”

The Dubliner spoke to St. Pat's Media earlier today which is available below.

Sligo Rovers announced the arrival of former Cobh Ramblers and Galway United striker Wilson Waweru as he becomes the second new arrival following JR Wilson’s signature earlier in the window ahead of the SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division season.

The Bit O’Red also jotted down the signature of Kelly Crompton from Sion Swifts for their SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division squad.

Crompton’s signing was not the only signing in the Division, however, as Nicole Keogh re-signed for DLR Waves.

In the SSE Airtricity Men’s First Division, Cobh Ramblers have secured the futures of midfielder Jason Abbott and forward Matt McKevitt who both have re-signed for the 2024 season.

Since the last League of Ireland update, Wexford also continued to build their squad for the new season with the return of Brandon McCann and Darragh Levingston who both impressed in last year’s campaign.
