LOI Down Syndrome Festival returns next Sunday

The League of Ireland Down Syndrome Futsal Festival Series returns next Sunday at the National Sports Campus.

The event kicks off at 12:00 on Sunday, October 6 in the Indoor Arena at the National Sports Campus, Abbotstown, Dublin.

The inaugural LOI Down Syndrome Futsal event took place in June with Finn Harps running out overall winners as they edged out Dundalk in a thrilling Final.

The initiative was the start of a collaboration between the FAI Football For All programme and the League of Ireland via the Club’s Football and Social Responsibility (FSR) Officers and provides players with Down Syndrome countrywide with an opportunity to line out for their local League of Ireland Clubs.

The players will battle it out for the newly formed Cairdeas Cup trophy with the event also marking October’s Down Syndrome Awareness month.

The level of skill and talent on show will no doubt lead to a wonderful afternoon of football.

Several League of Ireland clubs have so far jumped at the opportunity to support players with Down Syndrome and form new teams with the following clubs will take part in the upcoming Down Syndrome Futsal Festival:

- Bohemians
- Bray Wanderers
- Cork City
- Derry City
- Dundalk
- Finn Harps
- Shelbourne
- Sligo Rovers
- Wexford
