Sligo captain Kyle Callan-McFadden was full of praise for his side's effort in the 1-1 draw against Dundalk in Oriel Park.

The Sligo captain was well aware following last season what quality lay in the Dundalk side and was full of praise of manager Liam Buckley’s style of play.

“If you had said to us, when we had seen the fixtures that we had to go down to Dundalk and take a point you would have taken it with both hands. Especially since we played them last year and we came up here and got battered 5-0.

“But Liam, John Russell and Leo have come in and they have put their stamp down and have done bits that we needed to improve on and there are loads of bits we need to improve on but you will take loads of positives away from that 1-1 draw away to Dundalk the first game of the season.”

Like Oriel Park there has been a winter of change with a new manager at the helm at the ‘Bit of Red’ but McFadden reflected that both the manager and the new signings have settled in well at The Showgrounds.

“They have settled in very well, Liam is new to The Showgrounds but John Russell has played here for years. It is a breath of fresh air the two boys coming in, it has been brilliant for everyone. We have made some great signings and you can see from tonight we have gelled very quickly. But as I said there is still a few bits to work on and that will come in games in the next couple of weeks.

With two big home matches in Sligo over the next week, Kyle is hoping his side can build on the positives from last nights performances and take them into two key ties against St. Patricks Athletic and Cork City.

“That was one thing that Liam mentioned when he came in he wanted to stamp his style of play and what we are going to do with and without the ball. You can see from tonight in the fixtures there have been some big results in the league we can only beat what is in front of you. We are looking forward to Pats on Friday and then Cork on Monday and the games are coming thick and fast and that is what you want as a footballer.”
