Stephen Kenny was full of praise of winger Dylan Connolly following his brace of goals in the EA Sports cup quarter final against Bohemians.
After publicly backing the Meath native in recent weeks it seems the mid season signing from last year repaid the faith his manager place on him with two clinical finishes.
“I thought the players showed good attitude and Dylan Connolly with two terrific goals, he did really well tonight, he really excelled. He showed great pace for the two goals so it was a good performance.”
It was a much changed side for Dundalk with three of the Dundalk Under 19 squad getting the call up to play on the first team. All three players including the quickly nicknamed ‘Young Pablo’ a Brazilian born player who is currently residing in Northern Ireland, acquitted themselves well giving the manager hope for the future.
“We had three players from our under 19’s Gavin Smith, Pablo Cavalcante and Karl Fitzsimons they did well and they showed a good attitude and I felt we were worthy winners overall.”
Dundalk will be without four experienced players as once again injuries proving to be a selection headache of a different kind. It’s a challenge that the Dundalk manager is willing to undertake to ensure the club moves forward ahead of a busy SSE Airtricity League period.
“We have four league games in ten days now, Sligo, Derry, Bohemians and Waterford so its a real tough ten days ahead, the disappointing part of tonight was we have lost John Mountney, he looks like he has picked up a knee strain.
"Obviously on top of Stephen O’Donnell breaking his leg and Sean Gannon breaking ribs and Karlos Chevdukas with a serious ankle injury, they are all impact injuries of the joints and its something we will have to contend with.”
