Patrick Hoban was full of praise of his teammates following the 4-0 victory over Waterford which sent a signal out to the SSE Airtricity League that the champions maybe hurt but they are not out.

“It was a great result we dug deep when we were 1-0 up and defended very well and we worked as a unit which was great to see and obviously the second goal settled us,” reflected Hoban following the match in a windswept Oriel Park.

Hoban knows that the victory was important for both fans and players alike but isn’t resting on his laurels, he knows there is more to come from this side.

“It was a good performance, we can do better and we have been better against Sligo but winning is just the difference and you have to take your chances and that's how a lot of games run for us. You take a one-nil lead everyone is a lot happier, the crowds a lot happier, the players play with a lot more freedom. You can see that in the players, they are a lot more confident their tails are up and that's all we need.”

With Ronan Murray departing to Sligo in the close season, the house in which Hoban lives in was a little quieter until he was replaced with yet another Murray. Sean Murray who was a close-season signing from Vejle Boldklub has settled in well both on and off the pitch.

“It was a great cross from him (for the opening goal), he did the same against Sligo, he has that in his locker.  We live with each other as well and because of that there is that connection there and we train well together too so all come to the fore at the game.”

With a long list of injuries with includes the long term Patrick McEleney and Robbie Benson, Patrick was full of praise of the players that slotted into key positions ahead of tonight's game. Jordan Flores has a mixed start to his Dundalk career but showed his resolve in a great performance against the Blues.

“Lads have to be ready and to adapt quickly especially with all the injuries we have at the moment they need to learn quickly especially tonight will help them. It will help Jordan (Flores) especially after being taken off two weeks ago that will help his confidence. He has put his head down and worked very hard, I thought he was excellent down the left he gave us a great option, not the same option as Micky but retaining the ball a bit better and he worked very hard.”

Hoban knows that it's not just the starting eleven that wins you a title its a squad and the two-time SSE Airtricity League winner knows what it takes to lift the trophy come November.

“Its a squad effort its the same last year you need a whole squad to win a league and it's going to the same this year. Especially with the bodies, we have out we have to make sure we stick together.”
