Following a whirlwind couple of weeks for Bohemians youngster Danny Grant, the latest Dalymount star was disappointed with the 0-0 draw against Limerick.
Grant made the step up from the U19’s side to make his first-team bow against Cabinteely in the EA SPORTS Cup, in which he scored one of the goals of the season in a 5-1 win.
Trying to establish himself in Keith Long’s first team, Grant spoke of a quite bittersweet evening as the Dublin club were held at home to Limerick.
“I was delighted to get my first start tonight, I’ve been working hard and it’s been a while coming but it’s been worth it.
"That said, I think we dominated tonight and did well but maybe didn’t test the keeper enough or make the most of our chances so was a bit frustrating in the end.
"I feel it was two points dropped, definitely. But we can’t dwell on it too much, we have a massive game next week.”
The ex-Bangor Celtic star went on to describe the differences in playing SSE Airtricity League U19s football to senior level football.
“The game is much quicker, the tempo is a lot higher and it really can take it out of you, it’s a bit of a harder shift and you feel it a lot more afterwards playing at that speed for so long, but it’s a great complaint to have to be honest.
"I’m really enjoying it and getting used to it already.”
His man of the match performance in the EA Sports Cup against Cabinteely, earned him a run out as a sub against Dundalk, in which he impressed again, proved he belongs at this level with his pace and direct running with the ball.
The level-headed winger, who received a standing ovation as he left the field, was quick to praise boss Keith Long for the opportunity. “I’d like to thank the gaffer for giving me the chance, before the game he gave me a lot of encouragement and confidence, told me to stay wide and keep running at them as much as I could.
"I still have to think about the U19’s and hope to win the league again, but I’m enjoying the first team and hope to stay in as long as I can.”
Having helped The Gypsies into the next round of the EA Sports Cup with another outstanding display against UCD, it looks like the Bohs production line keeps rolling out these talented youngsters.
And having seen the likes of Fuad Sule and Warren O’Hora move across the water with incredible breakout season’s of their own, if Danny keeps up this level consistency and performance, the Bohs faithful might have another gem on their hands.
