9th June 1963: The Republic of Ireland defeated Scotland by 1-0 in a friendly match played before an attendance of 26,000 spectators at Dalymount Park. Captain Noel Cantwell scored the winning goal in the 6th minute when he shot past debutant Scottish goalkeeper Tommy Lawrence of Liverpool. Paddy Turner of Glasgow Celtic made his debut in this match. The Scots were captained by Denis Law and also included Jim Baxter and Billy McNeill in their team.

9th June 1993: The Republic of Ireland recorded an easy 2-0 victory against Latvia in a World Cup qualifying match played at the Dauvadas Stadium in Riga. John Aldridge (14) and Paul McGrath (42) were the goal-scorers as Ireland won away for the second match in a row having won in Albania just two weeks earlier.

9th June 1996: The Republic of Ireland opened their US Cup campaign with a 2-1 defeat to the hosts at the Foxboro Stadium in Boston. David Connolly (57) with his first international goal put Ireland ahead but USA struck back with goals from Tabare Ramos (58) and Claudio Reyna (76) to secure the points.

9th June 1999: The Republic of Ireland defeated FYR Macedonia (now known as North Macedonia) by 1-0 in European Championship qualifying match at Lansdowne Road. Niall Quinn scored the winning goal in the 67th minute with over 28,000 spectators in attendance.
