SSE Airtricity League sides Cork City and Shamrock Rovers enjoyed a successful night in the UEFA Europa League first qualifying round.

The league leaders Cork travelled to Estonia to face Levadia Tallinn and claimed a comfortable 2-0 victory ahead of next week’s second leg at Turner’s Cross.

Luc Manga was sent off for Levadia in the 42nd minute for two bookable offences and a minute later, Garry Buckley smashed a free-kick below the wall to open the scoring.

Cork continued to dominate the game and settled the tie with eight minutes to go with an impressive break and Steven Beattie found the top corner to give the Rebel Army a huge advantage going into the second leg.

Shamrock Rovers enjoyed a fantastic night in Iceland as well with a 1-0 win over FC Stjarnan.

Gary Shaw scored the only goal from close range in the 38th minute to give Rovers the advantage heading into the home leg at Tallaght Stadium next week.

Unfortunately, Derry City couldn’t make it a hat-trick of wins for SSE Airtricity League sides in the UEFA Europa League as they suffered a 6-1 defeat to FC Midtjylland.

The home side were 3-0 up at half-time and went on to score three more as Ronan Curtis got Derry’s only goal of the game in the 66th minute.
