SSE Airtricity League and Continental Tyres Women’s National League clubs attended a marketing workshop hosted by the FAI ahead of the Republic of Ireland MNT game against United States at Aviva Stadium.

The workshop was attended by staff and volunteers from numerous roles at the clubs and served as an opportunity to share experiences and knowledge on a wide range of topics.

Throughout a packed day, John McGuinness (SSE Airtricity League Marketing Executive) and Kieran Crowley (FAI Communications Executive) updated the group on developments in the Marketing and Communications in the SSE Airtricity League and Continental Tyres Women’s National League.

A presentation and group activity session, led by Matthew Gavin of Innocent Drinks, was well received by all in attendance. The session focussed on sponsorship and particularly how clubs can present themselves to, and add value for, prospective partners.

Daragh Persse, The Brand Fans, who are sponsorship evaluation specialists, prompted an interesting discussion when he gave the clubs an insight into how sponsors evaluate prospective partnerships and what they may be looking for from clubs.

Carina O’Brien (Bohemians) and Erika Ní Thuama (Cork City) gave the attendees an insight into the FAI’s More Than a Club Programme and the development of community programmes. Both clubs are six months into the 18-month pilot programme and their experiences so far are an example to clubs all across the country as to how football can be a vehicle to positively affect the lives of many in our communities.

FAI CEO John Delaney also paid a visit to the workshop and spoke with those in attendance before they got to enjoy seeing Shamrock Rovers’ Graham Burke netting his first senior international goal in a 2-1 victory over the United States.

McGuinness commented: “The workshop aimed to give clubs some ideas that can help them to become more sustainable by forging successful relationships with their communities, commercial partners and other clubs. It was great to see representatives from clubs in the SSE Airtricity League and Continental Tyres Women’s National League in the same room sharing ideas and experiences.”
