It may have required a penalty save from him to keep his side’s point intact, but goalkeeper Brendan Clarke still rues that Limerick FC didn’t take all three.

The Shannonsiders came from behind to draw at the Carlisle Grounds but would have lost had Clark not repelled a Gary McCabe penalty in the 73rd minute.

Bray midfielder Darragh Noone headed the Seagulls into the lead on 38 minutes but an outstanding solo effort from Chiedozie Obenge earned Limerick a share of the spoils.

“We’re disappointed not to win the game. We created a lot of chances – Peter (Cherrie) made a couple of good saves early in the first half and it’s been the story of the last couple of months for us – we’ve been creating a lot of chances but not putting them away and then conceding and switching off.

"It’s the first time in a while now where we’ve come from behind and we haven’t folded. In the last couple of games where we’ve gone behind, we’ve lost 2-0 or 3-0.

“That’s what I’m there for (to make saves). I got a bit of luck, Gary is top class at taking penalties but on another night he rolls it down the middle and they’re 2-1 up and we’re chasing the game again. Luckily I got something on it and kept it out.

“It was a good counter! Chiedozie has done well, he’s done that a couple of times this year and he was composed with his finish tonight which is something that he’s worked on a lot. I was delighted for him.”

Limerick into the tie with three points to spare over 10th placed Sligo. They now enjoy a three point cushion over 10th placed Galway instead but Clarke is focussing on his own results only.

“We can only look after ourselves and not worry about anyone else. We came to Bray and got a point on the road and although we’re disappointed not to win the game, you’ve got to take it and move onto next week.”

And if Clarke needs to forget about his relegation troubles for a moment, there is the small matter of an FAI Cup semi-final on the horizon.

“It’s a nice distraction. We’ve had a good run in that. I think the other three teams were hoping to draw us but we’ll go down to Cork and do our best. It’s a free hit for us really. We’ll prepare properly and we’ll go with all intentions of getting into the final. We’re definitely not going to make up the numbers.”
